Best Kept Secrets - Seriously Scented Candles

I love the allure of scented candles. Somehow they seem to make a room more inviting; creating a more cosy atmosphere. There are so many candle brands out there with a wide range of scented candles. There are big brands that are quite popular and then there are smaller players and family run businesses who use traditional production and hand finishing techniques. One such brand is 'Best Kept Secrets' who are a family run business based in the town of Morpeth in Northumberland. In addition to candles they also sell natural handmade soaps and reed diffuser sets.

Today's post is about their candles. They have a range of candles called 'Seriously Scented' that are available in three formats - candles in tins, candles in glass and tea light candles. The Candle tins have a burn time of over 50 hours and are available in a number of fragrances like Angel (Honey & caramel with oriental spices), Classic Cotton (Crisp & clean bergamot, lemon, cyclamen & sandalwood), Freesia (Freshly picked freesias, combined with bergamot, tuberose & sandalwood), Gingerbread Cookie (Creamy caramel, mixed spices, ginger & rum) and Parma Violet (Violet, bay & ylang ylang) to name a few.

AEQUILL Lemon & Geranium Candle

It has been a while since I have reviewed a candle on the blog. I am back today with the review of a beautiful fragrance from AEQUILL. AEQUILL is the brainchild of Jintana Khieochuam who moved to London from Thailand. A childhood spent surrounded by precious oils (Jintana's mom had a beauty therapy practice) meant that Jintana developed a passion for candles and essential oils. She put her knowledge and passion to use and created AEQUILL.

Landon Tyler's range of home fragrances are now available to buy from Boots. Recently I got the opportunity to try out two reed diffusers from Landon Tyler and just like the earlier occasion I used them, I was impressed this time around too.

Scented Candles from Matalan's Homeware Range

Happy Monday, everyone. In less than a week's time, it will be October. Time has really just flown by! It feels like it was the beginning of 2016 just a while back and here we are moving closer and closer to December. Guess time moves really fast when you are enjoying what you are doing.

Today, I thought I’d share these awesome bargain buys from Matalan with all you candle lovers out there. While I have been to Matalan numerous times, I have always stuck to their clothing section, never really looking into the homeware range they offer. Turns out they have a very nice homeware section which includes an inexpensive range of candles.

Fragrance Find : Landon Tyler Home Fragrances

Scented candles and other home fragrances can have a positive impact on your mood. I find that even looking at the glow of a candle can be very soothing and relaxing. Breathe Easier and Sleep Better With The Nutri Derma Organic Airways Spray

When you are not feeling well, all you want is a good nights sleep. But if you have a stuffy or congested nose then breathing becomes difficult and this in turn makes sleeping difficult. A hot shower before bed followed by a cup of Ginger tea helps to reduce the congestion and get some sleep. And recently I have found that the Organic Airways spray from Nutri Derma works well too. It helps in relieving congestion and creates a relaxing feeling allowing you to sleep better.

Bordeaux Fig and Vetiver Candle from La De Da Living Range on IJustLoveIt.co.uk

I am big fan of home fragrances, candles being my favourite. Filling the room with fresh and pleasant scents, candles can transport you to exotic locations even if you are sitting at home with the weather not playing ball. I love citrus based scents and spice based scents but am not a fan of sickly sweet artificial fragrances. That being said, I do love fresh and naturally sweet-smelling candles. And one such scent that is becoming a firm favourite of mine is the There’s Nothing Better Than a Friend, Unless It’s A Friend With Wine Candle! It is a Bordeaux Fig and Vetiver candle from IJustLoveIt.co.uk.

They recently launched a new range of professionally blended Aromatherapy Spritzes featuring three sprays - Focus, Balance and Sweet Dreams. I have been using two of these spritzes from Base Formula and really like them. Read on to know which of the two is my favourite.

Bomb Cosmetics Jingle Berry Piped Candle

Winter. Brr! It's wet, cold and windy. But one thing I love is the chance to light lots of candles. It is not that I don't use candles rest of the year. I do, quite a lot. But it is a little more in the winter months. Not surprisingly I love trying out new candle brands. And I recently discovered that Bomb Cosmetics have a lovely selection of candles. They have the regular glass and tin candles, paint tin candles, herbal tea candles and the very beautiful piped candles.

Joan Collins Timeless Beauty : Body & Soul Collection (EDP & Fragrance Diffuser)

Oh, how I love fragrances! After skin care products, my next big passion is perfumes. I simply LOVE them. Although there are certain family of fragrances that I always fall back on, I do not desist from trying out new scents. I have no preferred or signature scents and enjoy experimenting with new fragrances.

I recently had the opportunity to try out the Joan Collins 'I Am Woman' Body & Soul Collection. Joan Collins needs no introduction. The actress is a beauty and glamour icon. But some of you may not know that she launched her own beauty range last year. According to Joan,
"the beauty range aims not just to inspire women, but to provide them with the tools to feel and be beautiful at any age."

Fragrances Inspired by the African Continent - Yankee Candle's Kilimanjaro Stars and Serengeti Sunset

The trees near my house started changing colour a week back. The leaves are a mix of yellow, brown and red. It looks so beautiful and heralds the beginning of Autumn. Even astronomically Autumn begins today (or is it tomorrow?!) based on the equinox - when the day and night are of equal duration. And helping me feel seasonal and make this transition from Summer to Autumn are two lovely fragrances from Yankee Candles.

I love candles. You are sure to find a candle burning in my home during Autumn and Winter. And these two fragrances from Yankee Candles are perfect for this time of year. The candles featured on the blog today are from Yankee Candles' 'Out of Africa' range inspired by the African continent. There are four fragrances in the collection: Kilimanjaro Stars, Serengeti Sunset, Madagascan Orchid and Egyptian Musk. The first two were sent to me to try out.

Kilimanjaro Stars and Serengeti Sunset - Yankee Candles

Yankee Candle describes 'Kilimanjaro Stars' as follows "Like nightfall on the ice covered peak, crisp, clear mountain air is laced with cool mint and earthy patchouli." This is a lovely fragrance and smells really fresh. I love the colour of the wax and the smell is just like fresh air after a rain or the crisp air early in the morning. This scent reminded me of our camping trip in a desert in Rajasthan. It was a tailor-made trip with just me, Mr.H and the guide. We slept under the stars and when we woke up in the morning, it was all so still and silent. Fog hung over the sand dunes and the winter chill was in the air. The air was so fresh and crisp that we sat still for a long time, enjoying the beauty of nature. The Kilimanjaro Stars smells just like that morning in the desert. I love this scent.

'Serengeti Sunset' according to Yankee Candle is "the enticing blend of fruit, citrus, lotus flower and amber celebrating the haunting beauty of the African sky." To me it is a very fruity scent which has a lovely, warm citrusy fragrance - somewhat akin to a warm, fizzy Fanta (if that makes any sense?!). The colour of the wax relates to a golden sunset and if you like warm scents, then this one is for you. I liked this one as well.

But my favourite of the two is definitely Kilimanjaro Stars. It is a winner! The only drawback was the lack of 'throw' in both the fragrances. Both the fragrances smelt in the immediate vicinity of the candle, but the scent didn’t travel beyond a small radius! This could be due to the fact that both of these are small jars (104 gms., £8.99). I think this small jar might work better in a corridor or a staircase landing or any other small space.

Kilimanjaro Stars and Serengeti Sunset - Yankee Candles

Yankee Candle can be purchased from most departmental stores or online gift shops. You can also pick them up online from Yankee Candles' official website - www.yankeecandle.co.uk

What do you think of these two fragrances from Yankee Candle? Have you tried any of their new fragrances? How is the throw in the larger jars?

Owlchemy Wax Melt Warmer - Review and Giveaway

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a lovely weekend. I am beginning the week with a home fragrance related review. A while back I was contacted by Owlchemy, who make hand-crafted scented wax melts and also stock electric wax warmers. When I was asked if I would like to review one of their offerings and run a giveaway for my lovely readers, I said yes. Being a lover of home fragrances and candles, I could not let go of this opportunity, could I? I selected the Morning Glory Wax Warmer which comes with three free summer scents.

Owlchemy Wax Melt Warmer - Review and Giveaway

I use wax melts regularly albeit with a traditional wax burner which makes use of tea lights. I had never used an electric wax warmer earlier, so was quite intrigued and excited to try this one out. Owlchemy wax warmers come in two lovely designs -
  • Sunflower : which features a lovely sunflower design and
  • Morning Glory : that will remind you of the white flowers that climb up your fence on summer day.
Morning Glory, which I chose, has a lovely brown colour with a glossy finish. When I received the package I was surprised by the size. It is much bigger than I had imagined it would be. It is almost double the size of my old wax warmer! But it is beautifully made and goes well with the room décor. There is a 25 watt halogen light bulb inside the warmer base, which you can switch on and off using the switch on the cord. Once the bulb is switched on, in some time the heat from the bulb melts the wax which is placed on the top dish. The lovely scent is accompanied by a beautiful light glow coming out of the warmer base. It is lovely to look at.

The scents that came along with the warmer were lovely - Sex on the beach, Fresh Linen and Sea Berry - all wonderfully fragrant scents. Owlchemy have other lovely scents in their range like Caramel Apple, Mulled Cider, Red Rose Petals and Sweet Pea to name a few.

The wax warmer is perfect for use in scenarios where you cannot use candles in your accommodation i.e. in university rooms or rented accommodation. Otherwise as well, these are lovely to have at home. A stylish and relatively safe way to fill your home with fragrance minus the flame, smoke or soot.

New Orla Kiely Home Fragrance

The Orange Rind candle is made of 100% vegetable wax and is presented in a beautiful glass holder with the Flower Dot print. The scent is a warming luxurious blend of orange rind, sandalwood and eucalyptus essential oils with a hint of nutmeg. When the package arrived I could smell the scent even before unpacking the box - that gives you an indication of the strength of the fragrance. When lit, it is warm, strong and has a hint of spiciness. It is a classy scent - I love it. Also included in the box was a lovely heat protection mat in the same print.

New Luxury Candle Collection from Aroma Holiday

My love for candles is no secret. I believe, that whatever be the season, the right candle can set the mood and help you unwind. Candles help transform spaces and simply looking at one induces thoughts of comfort and warmth. I totally love candles. It is something that I am drawn to naturally. Today on the blog I am featuring three new and lovely fragrances from Aroma Holiday.

New Luxury Candle Collection from Aroma Holiday

Aroma Holiday candles are English handmade luxury scented candles with each one having an unique fragrance based on the founder's travels around the globe. The candles are made using Ecosoya® Wax (pure Soybean oil) and are manufactured meeting the required FDA standards.I have tried some of their luxury candles earlier - Paris, Rome and Istanbul with the last one being my favourite.

Aroma Holiday recently launched 7 new destination scents in a chic, gloss finish.

The new scents are:
- Tokyo (Orchid, Cedar & Cherry)
- Sydney (Eucalyptus, Lemon & Amber)
- Valencia (Bergamot, Grapefruit, Tangerine & Sandalwood)
- Dubai (Prune, Fig, Amber & Pomegranate)
- Agra (Ginseng, Nag Champa Incense & Lemongrass)
- Rio (Vanilla, Mango, Papaya & Sweet Pea) and
- Hawaii (Pineapple, Coconut & Palm)

New Luxury Candle Collection from Aroma Holiday

New Luxury Candle Collection from Aroma Holiday

Tokyo – Orchid, Cedar & Cherry : Transport yourself to the "Land of the Rising Sun" with this gorgeously scented fragrance. This new scent is intoxicating and sensual, but not overpowering. It captures the beauty of Japanese Orchids and Cherry blossoms. The delicate pink cherry blossoms are intricately associated with the culture of Japan and are considered a symbol of hope and renewal. The candle fragrance picks up on that making it a very apt scent for Spring-Summer; a fragrance that heralds new beginnings. I love it.

New Luxury Candle Collection from Aroma Holiday

New Luxury Candle Collection from Aroma Holiday

New Luxury Candle Collection from Aroma Holiday

Sydney - Eucalyptus, Lemon & Amber : This one is an invigorating aroma of lemon and eucalyptus, with amber adding the woody, earthy note. I have always loved eucalyptus fragrance - it is fresh and kind of awakening. Mr.H is not very fond of it because sometimes eucalyptus can have a very strong medicinal scent. But this candle is lovely - it has a unisex fragrance - well balanced, fresh and cool. Both Mr. H and myself love it.

New Luxury Candle Collection from Aroma Holiday

Valencia – Bergamot, Grapefruit, Tangerine & Sandalwood : A very refreshing grapefruit and tangerine diffuser set that is perfectly balanced with a touch of bergamot and sandalwood. The citrus extracts in this diffuser are perfect to keep nasty odours at bay - a very good alternative to an artificial air freshener.

All the three new scents that I was sent are lovely. The new packaging (gloss black finish) adds to the luxury quotient of the products. Of the 7 new releases, 2 are Special Editions: Agra (in a beautiful stylish white gloss finish) and Dubai (in stunning decadent Gold).

The new arrivals on Aroma Holiday - 180g travel tin candle(£10.00), 245g single votive candle(£29.00), 100ml reed diffuser(£29.00), 750g 3-wick large candle(£79.00) or diffuser and votive sets(£59.00) would make ideal gifts for someone special. You could even pick up a few for your dad this Father's Day. Check out Aroma Holiday's website for the entire range and for information on how to purchase the products.

Darceys Luxury Soy Wax Products

A couple of weeks back the postman brought me a gorgeous-smelling parcel. Even before I had opened the package I knew that it was a selection of wax melts from Darceys - the fragrance wafting out of the package was amazing. I had been talking to Clare Brannen, the Sales Director at Darceys, on Twitter and she had asked if I'd like to try some of their products.

Clare had sent me a lovely selection of products to try. Included in the package were Darceys best-selling soy wax melts and aroma beads. Here is what I received:
Scented Aroma Beads in two fragrances: 'Cashmere Type' and 'Cabernet'.
Soy Wax Melts: 'Darceys No 5', 'Fairydust', 'Monkey Farts', 'Cosy Snuggles', 'Fahrenheit Type' and 'Strawberry Champagne'.

Darceys Luxury Soy Wax Products

Let me begin with the scented aroma beads. These are an excellent way to scent different places. You could use them in your wardrobe, bedside drawer, pop one onto the radiator or even as a car air freshener. 'Cashmere Type' is a sweet and floral blend which includes saffron, pimento berries, white pepper, patchouli and vanilla. 'Cabernet' on the other hand is a wonderfully sweet aroma(think wine and cherry). While you can use these scented bead sachets to scent almost anywhere, mine are being used in the dresser drawer and I love the sweet scent that wafts out every time I open the drawer.

Darceys scented wax melts are made from pure soy wax and come in a box of 8 hearts with a minimum of 24 hours burning time. Here are the scents I tried:
  • Darceys No5: based on Chanel No5.
  • Fairydust: a rich and fruity floral signature balances jasmine with fresh cassis. Complex musk tones intertwine with rare woods and a hint of vanilla at the base.
  • Monkey Farts: top notes of fresh bananas and juicy grapefruit, middle notes of kiwi, juicy bubble gum.
  • Cosy Snuggles: fresh scent of lemon, mountain air and cotton blossoms.
  • Fahrenheit Type: a strong masculine scent which is a blend of citrus and spicy notes.
  • Strawberry Champagne: a sweet blend of red fruits boosted by lily of the valley and apple cider.
Fairydust and Monkey Farts were my favourite scents from the six that I tried. Both have a nice, sweet fruity scent which smells amazing. Mr.H liked the Fahrenheit Type - it has a strong and fresh citrus scent with a subtle hint of spiciness. Strawberry Champagne was also lovely - a beautiful sweet blend that transported me to a vineyard :)

Darceys Luxury Soy Wax Products

All the wax melts had a strong scent throw. This I think is because of the use of pure soy wax. Each heart melt has a burning time of around 7-8 hours, i.e. you will need two 4-hour tealights for each wax melt. Overall, I liked all the scents from Darceys - a great way to fill your home with luxury scents.

You can check out Darceys scent range here: www.darceysonline.co.uk In addition to wax melts and aroma beads, Darceys also stock candles, reed diffusers, tealights, room sprays and luxury roller perfumes.
