Made-to-order, customisable, quality clothing from Doc Cotton

Last month, I was contacted by Doc Cotton to try out their made-to-order, customisable clothing service. Since it sounded like an interesting concept (every item of clothing they make can be termed as 'sustainable fashion'), I agreed to try it out.

Slenderella Leaf Print Flannel Hooded Wrap

I have been waxing lyrical about the Slenderella Hooded Wrap to friends and family and not without reason. It is one of the softest and most comfy pieces of housecoat (or dressing gown as some like to call it) that I have ever used.

Scruffs Pro Softshell Jacket Review

Scruffs are the UK's leading workwear brand in terms of style, function and performance. Having used Scruff's Expedition Tech Jacket earlier and loving it, Mr.H was more than happy to put their Pro Softshell Jacket to test. Although it is marketed as a technical work jacket, the Scruffs Pro Softshell jacket can be worn by anyone as a casual wear jacket.

Scruffs Expedition Tech Jacket - Review

Scruffs have long had a reputation of being makers of innovative safety work wear. They use high-tech materials and come up with functional and utilitarian products. The Scruffs Expedition Tech Jacket, which Mr.H has been reaching out to a lot in the past few weeks, is a combination of functionality and style without being overly work wear in terms of appearance. The Expedition Tech Jacket appears to be one of Scruff's best-sellers and not without reason.

Royal Robbins Field Guide Vest

Myself and Mr.H, both love nature walks. We walk every day and go bird-watching whenever possible. The past few weeks weather has been good which led to many quick weekend trips including many birding trips to observe birds in some beautiful locations. Birding is a fun and relaxing activity. Both of us, more so myself have grown to love birding. One just needs to follow a few basic rules, carry the right gear and have lots of patience and you are sure to spot the birds. You would need to carry: binoculars, notebook & pen, camera, spare batteries, mobile phone and a bird classification book. While field bags are available that can hold all the birding stuff, neither Mr.H nor myself fancy carrying field bags. And this is where a field guide vest comes in handy. In today's post Mr.H shares his views on the Royal Robbins Field Guide Vest. Over to Mr.H.

Royal Robbins Field Guide Vest

What Royal Robbins say about the Field Guide Vest

The Field Guide Vest has all the pockets you could need. It is perfect for storing travel documents, maps, binoculars, cameras and even snacks. You name it, you can find a place for it in this vest. Our 2-Ply Nylon dries quickly and is very lightweight yet provides UPF 30+ protection. Micro brushing on the face gives a soft hand while the full dull nylon ensures durability.

My Views on the Field Guide Vest

The first thought that occurred to me when I saw and held the Royal Robbins Field Guide Vest was 'This vest looks and feels great and has LOTS of pockets.' It actually has a total of 17 pockets - 13 exterior and 4 interior pockets. The interior of the vest is mesh lined and feels comfortable. There is a D-ring near the shoulder yoke. The chest pocket comes with a key lanyard while there is a popper tab at back neck. There are two elasticised pockets on the lower backside of the vest. There are a few more pockets but these are not symmetrically placed on both sides of the vest. However, the presence of so many pockets ensured that I was able to carry all my stuff (binoculars, mobile, wallet, keys, book, spare batteries, snack bar and a pack of mints) without the need for a backpack or a field bag. The weight of all these products was evenly distributed and it was very comfortable walking with the vest on.

I chose the vest in small size and since the vest offers a relaxed fit, it was comfortable to wear and fit perfectly. The inner mesh lining seems to help with ventilation as I have never faced the problem of overheating even when I have worn the vest for long periods during warm weather. I have mostly worn the vest over a shirt and in the current weather it seems fine. I would however be interested to see how it works when we move into the summer months. Royal Robbins mention that the vest material has been specifically designed for sun protection(UPF 30+), so that's a plus point.

To sum it up, I like all the features of the Royal Robbins Field Guide Vest. It fits well, is comfortable and lightweight and performs well as an utility vest. The fabric and stitch quality is good. The overall vest design and the multitude of pockets means I can carry lots of stuff without taking a backpack. It is perfect for bird watching but one can also use it for photography trips and wild life safaris!

The Royal Robbins Field Guide Vest is priced at £80.00 and available to purchase from royalrobbins.co.uk

An Interview With 'Your Dreamcatcher' Founder, Julia White + New Additions To Their Clothing Range

Towards the end of last year, I had blogged about 'Your Dreamcatcher' jogging bottoms. The jogger bottoms had a very comfortable feel and fit and I had loved wearing them. Julia White from 'Your Dreamcatcher' got in touch recently and mentioned the addition of two new products to their range and needless to say I was quite excited to try one of them. The two latest additions are: a loose fitting razor back vest top and a loose fitting t-shirt, both in a gorgeous pale pink shade. I opted to trial the latter. Before we move on to the t-shirt though, here is Julia White the founder of 'Your Dreamcatcher' talking to us about the brand and her journey so far.

An interview with Julia White from Your Dreamcatcher

DB: Tell us about 'Your Dreamcatcher'. How did the name 'Your Dreamcatcher' come about?
JW: I had wanted to set up a brand of loungewear that was going to stand out. Obviously having good quality garments was very important to me and I wanted to be able to sell them at reasonable prices but I also wanted to develop a logo that would stand out. I thought through many ideas around relaxing and sleeping then I thought of the dream catcher. It was the perfect way to encompass the dreaming/relaxing side of the clothing but also the idea of following your dreams. I added the ‘Your’ to make it more personal.

DB: How and when did you come up with this business idea?
JW: I started thinking about this idea early 2014. I had reached a point in my life where I wanted to try combining my skills from the work place and my hobbies/interests and try to and start my own business. I have always loved clothes and used to make my own clothes some time ago. I have been working in internet retailing for many years now so it seemed the perfect time to design, manufacture and sell my own clothing brand online. Loungewear has seen a massive increase in popularity over recent years and I certainly developed a habit of getting in from work and putting on my comfy joggers and t-shirt. I am a great lover of some of the lead brands but not such a fan of their prices so thought this was the perfect market for me.

DB: Are you planning a foray into anything new in addition to clothing and jewellery?
JW: At the moment my plans are to expand the range of women's clothing and am working on lots of new designs and would like to extend into nightwear as it would suit the brand perfectly. Then moving into other markets within the clothing such as children's (would love to see baby grows with our logo), but would also like to add more accessories with more jewellery and bags.

DB: How do you make use of social media and the web to market yourself and your brand?
JW: I am a new business and do not have big marketing budgets so social media is very important to me. I have been steadily building a Facebook and Twitter audience and also have Instagram, Google+ and Pintrest presence. It is a great way to get messages out to your market but also a great way to get feedback and engagement from your prospective customers. I keep people updated on our latest deals and news through social media posts and love getting comments and feedback.

My website is my storefront so it is important that provides a good customer experience. Advertising on Google is expensive so I rely on good content to keep my presence with the search engines.

DB: Has the experience of running your own business been different from what you had expected? JW: I expected it to be hard work and was not disappointed! In order to get the business started I had to learn new skills and had to do every job in the business. Sometimes it is the jobs that you think will be the simplest that are actually a lot harder and take a lot more time than expected, which has given me a greater appreciation of peoples skills, but it has been a great experience and very rewarding!

DB: What would be your advice to someone who wants to start a similar business?
JW: Be prepared to work incredibly hard and don’t be afraid to make mistakes, just make sure you learn by them.

Well folks that was Julia White, the inspiring entrepreneur responsible for bringing 'Your Dreamcatcher' to us. I really like her enthusiasm and passion for work and wish her the very best.

Now, let's move on to the t-shirt.

Your Dreamcatcher Pink Tee Shirt

Your Dreamcatcher Pink Tee Shirt
The new t-shirt is a loose fitting garment in a pale pink colour. What is unusual about the t-shirt's design is that it is made from  just 2 pieces, so there is no sleeve seam. While the top has a looser fit, the t-shirt has been shaped to fit around the hips(as you can see from the pictures below). The t-shirt is made from 100% cotton and has a peached finish making it very soft and comfortable - perfect for the coming months. The striking logo is positioned in the bottom left on the front of the t-shirt. I feel the t-shirt can be worn with jeans, shorts and also goes well with the jogging bottoms from Your Dreamcatcher!

Priced at £12.00, the t-shirt can be ordered online at http://www.yourdreamcatcher.co.uk/. The site currently has an interesting offer as well - a FREE dream catcher when you buy any of 'Your Dreamcatcher's clothing.

How to Stay Warm in Cold Weather?

The drop in temperature over the past couple of weeks has led me to reach out to warm winter clothing. Being too cold is not comfortable for anyone, but in my case it is even more worrisome because it aggravates my arthritis. Cold weather for me means more days with aches and pains. So I always try to keep myself snug and warm. Heating is an obvious solution, but I do not put the heating on 24 hours a day as it severely dries my skin. I try to stay warm with a combination of ideas. Here are some of my tips to stay warm this winter:

1. Eating the right food: Food plays an important role in keeping you warm. It is the most important source of energy to keep your body warm. So, I ensure that I have at least 2 warm meals everyday in winter. I also ensure that I have warm drinks throughout the day - be it tea, soup or even a glass of warm water. One additional benefit here is when you cook, the kitchen becomes warm :)

2. Close unused rooms: This may not seem like an effective idea to many but trust me, keeping doors closed does contain the heat within that room. This is a good idea if your home is not centrally heated. Closing the doors prevents cold air from moving from one room to another.

3. Ensure that all windows are properly closed and latched. Use thick curtains in winter. If your house has wooden or stone flooring, put rugs or carpets to reduce heat loss from the floor. Use draught excluders as even a small draught can make your room feel a lot colder.

4. Use candles: There is no better time than winter to light candles. Not only do they give warmth and light but a good scented candle can uplift your mood and make you feel better.

5. Exercise: This is one area where I mostly fail in winters. I know very well that exercise will warm me up and improve the blood circulation, but I always end up exercising very little. This winter I plan to be more active thereby producing more body heat and staying warm.

6. And finally - dress warm. I like to layer my clothes. I usually opt for lots of thin cotton layers. I also like thermal inner wear and the Heat Holders Thermal Long Sleeve Vest is one that I frequently use. Thermal tights, socks, gloves and hats are also my trusted aides during winters. The past few weeks I have been reaching out to the Heat Holders Snugover Fleece. The Snugover fleece is made from "Heatweaver" thermal fur fabric and is very generously sized. The fleece jumper has a tog rating of 1.4 and offers excellent thermal performance and comfort. It is extremely soft to touch and the softness adds to the comforting feeling. The jumper has a drawstring funnel neck and a drawstring waist which you can tighten. This prevents the body warmth from dissipating. I love the double pouch pockets - perfect for keeping my fingers warm. The Snugover I have is a lovely shade of purple but the jumper is also available in black. I really love the Snugover. The only minor issue I have is the size. The Snugover comes in two sizes: S/M which fits sizes 6-12 (34”-42” chest) and L/XL which fits sizes 14-22 (44”-50”). I am usually Size 10-12 but the S/M Snugover was a little big for me. But I would not consider this a major drawback considering I have a very petite frame. Having said that, I would still love it, if the Snugover was made in individual sizes rather than S/M and L/XL.

The size issue aside, I have no hesitation in recommending the Heat Holders Snugover. If you are looking for something that is soft, light and yet provides warmth, then Heat Holders Snugover is the one. You can purchase it online from SockShop.

Comfortably Dressy - Your Dreamcatcher Womens Jogging Bottoms

I prefer to dress for comfort rather than to impress and this implies in all scenarios - whether I am at home, at work, shopping or travelling. I do not like itchy fabrics, skinny jeans and clothes that require a lot of ironing or care. I like hard-wearing clothes and you will find some sweaters in my closet that are almost a decade old :) And I still wear them!

In summers, when I am at home, you will find me in cotton t-shirts teamed either with cotton skirts or a pair of shorts. In winters I like to be warm and comfortable and if you drop in at my home, you will mostly find me in long sleeve jumpers and pyjamas. And today's post is about my newest and extremely comfortable pair of jogger bottoms from the Your Dreamcatcher range.

Your Dreamcatcher Womens Jogging Bottoms

Your Dreamcatcher was founded by Julia White early this year. The aim of the brand is to be able to provide good quality clothing at affordable prices and with a fun, recognisable logo. As you can see from the pictures below, the logo is a prominent feature on their clothing. Your Dreamcatcher's initial range of leisurewear includes a t-shirt, vest top, off-shoulder top and jogging bottoms. They also have a wonderful jewellery range which compliments their clothing perfectly.

Coming back to the jogger bottoms that I was kindly sent by Your Dreamcatcher - it has a medium fit and is very comfortable. There is the Dreamcatcher logo at the top of the left leg. The jogger bottoms are 43% cotton, 57% polyester and are very soft on the inside. The sizing is fine. I chose size 10 as that is my regular size. It fits me perfectly at the waist. There is a drawstring at the waist, so you have some flexibility in terms of adjustments as well. The length was a little long for me, but then that is understandable as I fall in the petite category. However, the bottoms come with a cuffed ankle so the extra length did not cause any problem at all. I have worn these many times since I received them and I must say they are very comfortable - just as I had expected. The non-baggy fit is great and I love how soft it feels on the inside.

What I like about the Jogging Bottoms

- Medium fit, comfortable to wear
- Cuffed ankle but thankfully not very tight
- Super soft fleece on the inside making it perfect for the colder weather
- Love the colour, the logo and the stitching quality

If you have not heard of Your Dreamcatcher, it is time you check out http://www.yourdreamcatcher.co.uk/.

And now comes the most interesting part. Your Dreamcatcher are very kindly offering one lucky reader of DB Reviews a chance to win their own women's' jogging bottoms. Entry, as always, is by Rafflecopter. The more entries you complete, the more your chances of winning. All the best!

JustFor5Pounds - An Online Fashion Outlet

I love pink. It is one of my favourite colours and I tend to prefer it over red. For me pink signifies love, affection, tenderness and nurturing. It also represents calmness and hope. My wardrobe has a lot shades of pink - from the lightest baby pink to shades of deep pink such as magenta. A while back JustFor5Pounds sent me three pieces of clothing from their collection - all in shades of pink. October being the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our local community centre organised a 'Wear it Pink' day and I had three lovely pieces to choose from courtesy of JustFor5Pounds.

I received the above three items. The top in the third picture is different
from the one I received in terms of colour and the print though.

The oriental design top was my favourite of the three. It is so comfortable/easy to wear, feels good on the skin and is light to pack as well. I love the mix of colours on this piece and feel that it can be really versatile in terms of styling.

The scarf is a gorgeous shade of pink and very feminine. It has a very pretty sequin design and a tassel trim. The colour and the sparkly style make this scarf perfect for a glamorous evening cover-up. You can also use it to add some colour and bling to your daytime casual looks. I love everything about this scarf - the sheer fabric, the colour and the sequin pattern. An excellent buy!

The dress has a comfortable fit and made of 96% Viscose 4% Elastane. It has a V-Neck line and is sleeveless as you can see from the pictures below. I feel that it is ideal both for daytime and evening wear. Over the past couple of months I have worn it many times in the evenings and I love how the top part of the dress subtly glitters and shimmers in light.

Juliet Printed Skirt from Weird Fish - Perfect Spring Wear

Weird Fish is brand that sells vintage inspired and hard wearing, comfortable clothing. They have a wonderful range of clothes and accessories for men, women and kids. I came across their website recently while looking for casual clothes and was quite excited when I got the chance to review an item from their website. I am a simple dresser; I dress more for comfort than fashion. I like hard wearing clothes that not only look good but also feel good even when they have been used for long.

Weird Fish have a large selection of beautiful clothing and I took quite a long time to choose one. I knew I wanted something floral and simple. I kept oscillating between a floral dress and a floral skirt and finally settled for the latter - a Juliet Printed Skirt.

The skirt came in a lovely personalised package and the surprising fact was that it fit through my post box. No wastage in terms of packaging and yet the skirt was well packed and protected. I had selected a size 10 and it was perfect. The skirt has a slightly dipped hem and a hidden side zip opening.

It has a cotton lining for easy wear. What I liked the most about the skirt apart from its beautiful print was that it was 100% cotton - perfect for the Spring and Summer months. The skirt was very comfortable to wear just how I like my clothes to be. I have worn it a few times since I received it and it has already become a favourite. I love the dipped hem, the floral print, the gorgeous colours and above all the comfort it offers.

This Juliet Printed Skirt sells for £35.00. You can check out Weird Fish's varied selection of clothing online on their website. They offer free UK standard delivery on orders over £25.00 and currently have a mid-season sale on. So, what are you waiting for? Head over to their website; I am sure you will love their collection.
