Fab products for greasy hair and scalp

Greasy hair/scalp can be a bit of a bother. I have naturally frizzy hair with oily roots and if I leave a little longer between hair washes, the excess oil production leaves my hair looking weighed down. I do not like dry shampoo and prefer to use regular shampoos that gently cleanse and clarify the scalp/hair roots without drying it out while leaving it fresh.

In today's post, I am sharing my views on three products that I have used with good results for tackling oily/greasy hair.

Pure Anada Scalp Therapy Shampoo with Lemon & Teatree

First up, is the Scalp Therapy Shampoo from Pure Anada. It is a pH balanced formula that helps to reduce excess oiliness without the use of toxic chemicals. With Tea Tree Leaf Oil, Lemon Peel Oil and Ylang Ylang Oil among other ingredients, the shampoo gently removes excessive product build-up, sebum etc. and leaves the hair clean with a lovely feel to it. Easy to apply and easy to wash off, the shampoo has a fragrance that is natural and mild.

The shampoo is free from Parabens, Phenoxyethanol, SLS and synthetic fragrances and is great choice if you are looking for a gentle and clean formula.

Priced at £10.75 for 475ml, you can buy the Pure Anada Scalp Therapy Shampoo from Live in the Light

Khadi Nutgrass Ayurvedic Shampoo

Khadi's organic certified shampoo range is made with natural ingredients and according to the ancient principles of Ayurveda. I tried their Nutgrass Shampoo which is a 'Balancing Treatment' for normal to oily hair.

The shampoo has an unusual texture. It is somewhat runny but cleanses and tones the scalp really well. It controls sebum production and restores natural shine to hair.

Some of the key ingredients in the shampoo are:

  • Nagarmotha (cypriol) which has been traditionally used to cleanse hair and control sebum production, giving oily hair volume and lift.
  • Daruharidra (Indian barberry), which has antibacterial properties and has traditionally been used as a herbal hair rinse to help with scalp infections and other complaints commonly associated with oily scalp/hair.

The shampoo has a lovely, mildly citrusy fragrance and is free from SLS, peroxide, ammonia, preservatives, synthetic or artificial colours and dyes.

If you are looking for a holistic product, then the Khadi Nutgrass Ayurvedic Shampoo is a good pick.

Pure Anada Detoxifying Shampoo Bar (Tea Tree & Sweet Orange)

And the final find and my favourite product is the Pure Anada Detoxifying Shampoo Bar, available to buy from Live in the Light.

Made with Ecocert approved ingredients only, the shampoo bar from Pure Anada is safe for the environment and equally good for skin/hair. It is pH balanced and also contains non-toxic surfactants that break up the trapped dirt and oils on the hair and scalp gently, so they can be washed away with water. This was the first time I was using a Pure Anada shampoo bar and loved it. I liked how well it lathered and cleansed the hair/scalp.

You can lather the shampoo bar in your hands and then apply it to hair or rub the bar directly onto scalp and throughout hair. I preferred the latter option as it kind of massages the scalp as well. It is easy to rinse off the shampoo lather as well.

It works wonderfully well, leaving my hair clean, soft and smelling great. The scalp feels clean and refreshed too. An amazing product. Highly recommend.

Priced at £9.95 for a 115g bar, you can buy the Pure Anada Detoxifying Shampoo Bar from Live in the Light.

Note: Each shampoo bar lasts for around 100 washes which is equal to 2-3 bottles of liquid shampoo (16oz).
