Churchill's Confectionery - Dinosaur and Sea Life Tins | Review and #Giveaway

I have an amazing giveaway today in collaboration with Churchill's Confectionery to give away two of their new confectionery tins which have been designed especially for children.

Churchill's Confectionery have been making tasty sweets, biscuits and chocolates since 1984. Their USP is the unique, decorative packaging of their range. Their confectionery tins make excellent gifts. Remember their Christmas stocking style tins? Filled with chocolate creams these remain one of my favourite confectionery tins. The two new tins that they recently launched feature Dinosaur and Sea Life themes and come with a puzzle in addition to the confectionery.

Win Churchill's Art Deco Tin - Violet with Lemon and Ginger Cookies

Churchill's Confectionery based in Hertfordshire are known for their mouth-watering assortment of confectionery. They are also known for the beautiful novelty tins and boxes that their delicious products are packaged in. Churchill's recently came out with two new tins - Rose and Violet, filled either with Apple Crumble or Lemon and Ginger biscuits.

Churchill's very kindly sent me the Violet tin to sample. The Violet tin portrays a beautiful lady, wearing an intricately embossed dress and feathered hat, ready to head out in the evening. The tin has a typical Art Deco gold frame and the shimmer and sparkle from the ladies' dress looks lovely against the black background. The tin is airtight and is a beautiful addition to my collection of novelty tins :) The biscuits included in the box (300g delicious stem Ginger biscuits) arrived in perfect condition - no breakages and tasted delicious.

Churchill's - Creative, Luxury Gift Confectionery

Confectionery as gifts during the festive season has been an age old tradition. Personally I prefer retro confectionery products and the brand that I present to you today has some really lovely products that use traditional retro packaging.

Churchill's Confectionery headquartered in Borehamwood (Hertfordshire) is a family-run business. Starting as a small, independent firm Churchill's has grown into an award winning global company. With more than 25 years' experience in the confectionery business they are an iconic British brand with their products being sold in the UK and many other countries worldwide.

Churchill's Confectionery sells a delicious range of sweets, chocolates and biscuits. All their products are decoratively packaged in hand-crafted gift bags and novelty tins. It is this combination of mouth-watering confectionery with novelty packaging that makes them stand out from others. I was recently sent some of their confectionery products and today I will share my views on the same.

First up is the 'Carousel', a beautifully crafted toffee tin that instantly evoked memories of my childhood. I held the tin in my hands for a very long time reminiscing about all the fun times I have had as a child at the local fairs. The tin is embossed with scene from a carnival and depicts everything so realistically. They have used excellent embossing effects to give a realistic sense of movement and depth to the characters. I am not exaggerating when I say that this toffee tin is one of the most eye-catching ones I have come across in recent times. With the packaging so beautiful, I had high hopes from the sweet treats that were inside the tin. And I was not disappointed. The English toffee and Vanilla fudge were both delicious. They reminded us of old fashioned sweets - simple, tasty and made to perfection. This product gets full marks both for the presentation and the quality of the sweet treats.

Carousel - 400g Toffees & Vanilla Fudge
£9.99 on Amazon

Next we have 'Winter Wonderland' which contains 400g of assorted biscuits(fruit & lemon cookies, chocochip shortbread and round shortbreads). The cookies were again of excellent quality like the toffee/fudge and did not last long in our household :) Mr.H's favourite was the chocochip shortbread - crumbly shortbread studded with chocolate chips. Yum. I loved the plain shortbreads - luxurious and absolutely delicious. The tin is a collectable like the Carousel one. It has a rippled silver-effect frame with a scenery depicting children playing in the snow, building a gleaming snowman. The tin beautifully captures the Christmas spirit and looks wonderful.

Food News - October 2014

Time flies when you are having fun. It seems like October had just begun and here we are welcoming November. As the new month begins its time for a quick roundup of some interesting food products I was kindly sent over the past month.

Higher Living Tea
Tea is something we enjoy a lot at home. Whatever be the season, whatever be the mood, there is a tea for every occassion. I love discovering new tea brands and one such brand that I was introduced to last year is 'Higher Living'. Their infusions are created by herbal experts with over 45 years of brewing up exceptional teas, so you can expect premium quality. Sweet Chai and Sweet Chilli are two of my favourites from the Higher Living range. Over the past month we have been enjoying their 'teapees'. Teapees are tetrahedron shaped tea bags. The two flavours that we tried were: English Earl Grey Teapee and Power Teapee. As always both myself and Mr.H picked our favourites instantly. I was drawn to the Power Teapee which is packed full of aromatic and tasty organic herbs, spices and fruits giving the blend a strong tasty punch. Comparatively the English Earl Grey Teapee is more delciate and has a citrusy aroma and is perfect for a late afternoon tea. You can check the Higher Living Tea Shop here: higherlivingherbs.com

Churchill's Christmas Pudding Fudge
Made by Churchill's Confectionary, these creamy and smooth Christmas Pudding Fudge were an instant hit at home. They are really delicious and are made with top class ingredients. We had my cousins over at our place when the fudge arrived and it was well received by all. It was a unanimous verdict that these sweets were wonderfully old fashioned and had been made to perfection. I loved the packaging as well. Definitely recommend as a Christmas buy! Check out the entire Churchill's range here: churchills-confectionery.co.uk

Slim Fruits
Ok, so this actually is not food per say, but the brand claims it is "the healthiest sweet on the market". So I decided to include it in this food roundup :) Slim Fruits are Acacia tree gum fibre sweets that are free-from sugar and only 2 kcals per sweet. Yes, you read that right. Each pastille has only 2 kcals but the same fibre content as 6 slices of wholemeal bread - minus the carbohydrates and fat. Sounds too good to be true, isn't it? While I did not use these as an aid for slimming, I did use them as sweet treats to control my sugar cravings. The pastilles are a little bit harder and much more chewy than I had expected but they do taste nice. They pastilles come in 2 flavours - Peach Melba and Rhubarb & Strawberry - both of which are bold and fruity in taste. The pastilles may not have the 'perfect' texture that I was looking for, but they are no doubt a great alternative to sugar rich snacks. Priced at £1.89 per pack, Slim Fruits can be picked up from Boots and Holland & Barrett stores across UK.

Christmas Cocktails with Fentimans!
We have been fans of Fentimans ever since we first tried their drinks earlier this year. Last month we tried some of their finest mixers - Fentimans’ Ginger Ale, Tonic Water and the new 19:05 Herbal Tonic Water. Made with the very best natural ingredients and a lot of British passion, these mixers are sure to add a bit of sparkle over the festive season! My favorite was the 19:05 Herbal Tonic Water - a unique mixture of floral and herbal botanicals giving it a very intriguing aroma and complex layer flavours.

You can visit www.fentimans.com to browse the entire range. I even have an interesting recipe for you to try out: The Spiked Ginger Fizz.
What you’ll need:
4.5cl dark or spiced rum
1.5cl freshly squeezed orange juice
1.5cl ginger syrup
1. Shake the ingredients above with ice.
2. Strain into a double Collins glass and add ice cubes.
3. Add Fentimans Ginger Beer and garnish with orange peel.

Many thanks to all the brands for the samples. All views and opinions expressed are my own.
