Tips To Help You Kick A Bad Habit

Collaborative content.

Kicking a bad habit is extremely hard to do, particularly when you’re ingrained in your ways.

In a video from BBC ideas, Dr Radha Modgil quotes an author named Sean Covey, who stated that “depending on what they are, our habits will either make us, or break us. We become what we repeatedly do.” It’s all rather dramatic, but variations of this train of thought fester in everyone’s minds at some time or another, and a change becomes necessary.

If you’re in such a boat yourself, then perhaps our tips on changing bad habits can help you. You’ll find them after the jump!

The Natural Approach

As wonderful as it would be otherwise, you can’t typically change your ways overnight.

Instead, you need to set realistic goals and pace your evolution steadily. Prioritise the little victories and let them fill you up with pride. If you’re under the impression that a single finish line will turn your life around, then it will probably never come. Change is a transition, a process, and you can’t simply hop from point A to point Z in one big leap.

To be the person you want to be, you must first be a couple of people who you can put up with for now. An article The Guardian advises to “change your autopilot settings, instead of relying on willpower” alone when combatting bad habits. There’s a lot of wisdom to that, so take things one day at a time, and focus on your overall outlook, rather than trying to abruptly alter specific habits at first. Changing your nature takes time.

Trade Habits

All habits can be bad habits if you spend too much time on them, interfering with other aspects of your life and your wellbeing.

There is such a thing as having too much of a good thing. Eating, drinking, and smoking can all get out of hand if performed in excess, so it’s a good idea to try and curb these things if they’re being enjoyed too often. That way, you can be sure that you will maintain a healthier lifestyle. Variety is key here, making sure you don’t return to the same few tried and tested mood boosters.

A suitable alternative would be to start vaping instead. To get started with all the latest mods and e liquids, choose from myCigara’s products. This company will help you start things off sensibly and within your price range.

Each purchase doesn’t mean more vaping, per se, but that you can look forward to a different experience each time you revisit it. There’s a power in keeping things fresh and interesting, without getting addicted to just one single experience for years on end.

Ask For Help

Sometimes, the most obvious advice can be the hardest to take onboard and adhere to.

If your bad habits start affecting your wellbeing, then you should absolutely reach out to loved ones or professional services to help you through. Who knows, it might be that people’s empathy and goodwill could spur you on to reaching your goals? No one is above some much-needed support, so don’t be afraid to lay things out on the line if there is even a small part of you wanting to do so.

According to the BBC, a mix of fear and pride has stopped university students from reaching out in times of need. Don’t suffer in silence. The discussion around mental health is now more open than ever, so there will be friendly faces to help you if you look for them.
