Looking for unique and delicious gifts for the foodie in your life? Head to Sous Chef's website. With a warehouse based in north London, Sous Chef stock everything from advent calendars to alcoholic gifts, from cooking ingredients to cookware and from recipe kits to tasting selections. It is a fabulous website and you will be surprised by the choice of Christmas offerings they stock - food advent calendars, chocolates & confectionery, panettone, alcoholic drinks and even Christmas tree decorations.

We were recently sent two foodie gifts from Sous Chef - Muzzi Marron Glace Panettone and Kikusui Junmai Ginjo. Both items would made great gifts for foodie friends or members of the family.

Muzzi Marron Glace Panettone

Panettone has its origins in the Lombardy region of Italy and like many other popular Italian foods, it has made its way around the world. The sweet bread can be enjoyed any time of the day, on its own or with butter/cream or even ice cream.

Muzzi panettones are made with the best of ingredients – fresh eggs along with carefully selected butter, milk and sugar. They make a variety of panettones and this one - the Muzzi Marron Glace - is studded with pieces of candied chestnuts. Absolutely delicious! The addition of chestnuts acts as a reminder of the connection between Christmas and chestnuts. The texture of the panettone was as it should be - soft, airy and springy. We enjoyed it as a breakfast treat and with a glass of wine too! We loved it.

Kikusui Junmai Ginjo

Sake or Japanese rice beer is made by fermenting rice that has been polished to remove the bran. The quality of sake is determined by the amount of polishing the rice receives and generally, sake that is made from highly polished rice is said to be of a better quality. There are different grades of sake dependant on the polishing ratio with Ginjo being considered a premium sake with a minimum of 40% polishing ratio.

The Kikusui Junmai Ginjo is a light and elegant sake that makes for a great introduction to sake for white wine lovers and offers a crisp refined taste that sake fans will appreciate. Medium dry with an aroma of fresh melons and a medium body with mandarin notes, this sake can be a refreshing accompaniment to any dish from any cuisine.
