Intimate health issues are something that not all of us discuss openly whether with our families or the GP. But this should not be a topic that we avoid discussing as neglecting intimate health issues can have many repercussions. There are many common vaginal infections like Thrush, Chlamydia and Bacterial Vaginosis(BV). BV one of the most common vaginal conditions develops when the bacterial balance in the vagina goes askew. This could be due to varied reasons like: use of antibiotics, your menses, vaginal douching, using scented intimate products and even excessive washing.

Though BV does not cause any soreness or itching, it does have one tell tale symptom: a discharge with a fishy smell mostly after intercourse. If you have frequent occurrences of BV, you should get in touch with your GP to rule out other infections and also to treat BV.

Basically BV is a result of imbalance in vaginal bacteria or in simpler words imbalance in pH levels. And this is where the product that I am talking about today comes into the picture. The pH Balanced Feminine Wipes from Balance Activ have a pH of 4.5 which is the natural level for the vagina in keeping normal bacterial micro-flora. The wipes have a unique formulation with Lactic Acid which supports the body’s natural defence mechanisms and is also proven to reduce odour. The wipes come in small discreet pack with a resealable strip. It is similar to a pack of wet wipes in terms of packaging and appearance. The wipes are fragrance and paraben free and do not irritate the skin. I carry it with me while travelling and use it when I feel I might be sweating down there. The wipes always leave me feeling clean and fresh. Priced at £1.79 for a pack of 10 wipes, I think these wipes do help to maintain intimate hygiene and for that reason I would recommend it.

Apart from using pH balanced wipes you can do a few other things to keep your pH levels in control; these include avoiding the use of overly perfumed products, not douching, wearing cotton undergarments and changing your sanitary products at regular intervals. You can read more about BV and other vaginal conditions and infections here.
