HoMedics Shiatsu Max 2.0 Back and Shoulder Massager with Heat

A couple of years back I was introduced to HoMedics who sell a range of personal health and wellness products. HoMedics are popular for their range of home massage products and have been a leading innovator in massage technology. Their wellness range includes humidifiers, sleep aids, fitness monitors etc. I have used their Shiatsu cushion and it has served me well. So, my impression of the brand has been positive. A few months back I had the opportunity to trial the Shiatsu Max 2.0 Back and Shoulder Massager with Heat. And I readily took up the chance. I have always suffered from neck and back problems (it runs in the family) and use different kinds of massagers. I have hand-held massagers, a mini travel one (which my aunt got from the USA) and the Homedics Shiatsu cushion. The Shiatsu Max 2.0 felt like the perfect progression in the line of massagers I have. It promised to deliver a more intense massage experience for the back and it certainly did.

HoMedics iHeal with PEMF Technology

As someone who suffers from chronic pain, I am always on the lookout for new and innovative methods of pain management. There was a time when I used to simply pop a painkiller to manage my pain but over the past few years I have drastically reduced my dependence on pain killers mainly because of certain gut conditions. I still do take anti-inflammatory painkillers when the inflammation and pain is bad. But when the symptoms are not too bad, I prefer to manage the pain with non-medication approaches. One such approach that I have taken help of recently is the HoMedics iHeal.

HoMedics iHeal with PEMF technology

The iHeal uses pulsed electro-magnetic field (PEMF) waves to stimulate the body’s natural healing process. Clinically proven, this technology increases cell activity, repair and faster recovery from most soft tissue injuries. According to the makers, the iHeal can be used for targeted treatment of:
  • Tendonitis
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Tennis/golfer’s elbow
  • Painful/arthritic joints
  • Sports strains
  • Aching muscles

My experience: The iHeal is a very tiny device - just 38mm. It can be attached either with hypo-allergenic sticky patches or using the strap sleeve - both of which are provided in the box. The unit is charged by lithium batteries which are also included and a small mini screwdriver is provided(for use when you want to replace the batteries).

When the iHeal is switched on, the indicator light gives a short flash at a constant rate. This indicates the frequency of the electromagnetic pulse. While there is no set length of time for treatment, the makers recommend a minimum of 4 hours. My rheumatic condition has affected my fingers, the palm area and spreading onto the wrists. These are the areas where I have constant pain and stiffness. So, I used the iHeal to target these 3 areas. Because I did not find it inconvenient to use(no tingling, no noise), I let the unit stay for around 6-8 hours a day on my hand. Using the iHeal did seem to have helped a bit. But it's always a little difficult to be sure as my rheumatic pain tends to flare up and recede on its own. But whether this was a placebo effect or the PEMF waves at work, I still had a positive outcome. And any relief from pain, however little it may be, is always welcome.

Also, because of its tiny size, the iHeal can be worn under clothes and I find this aspect ideal when I am travelling or out and about.

The iHeal should not be used if you are pregnant, have a pacemaker or other heart problems. As with all such types of treatments, please consult your GP before using the iHeal. The instruction manual that comes with iHeal lists out all the precautions and safeguards. If you would like more information on the HoMedics iHeal(£49.99) you can visit HoMedics UK.

Soothe Tired, Achy Muscles with the HoMedics Shiatsu Cushion

HoMedics are a well known name in the personal health and wellness products domain. They invest in the latest technological advances bringing to us a range of innovative personal well-being products. I am sure you must have heard of, seen or used one of their massagers. I recently had the opportunity to try out the HoMedics Shiatsu Cushion - a compact massager that offers reverse action Shiatsu massage along with circular thumb action.

The HoMedics Shiatsu Cushion

The HoMedics Shiatsu Cushion has a compact design with adjustable rear straps with which you can secure it to most chairs. Because of its size the cushion is easily portable as well. The cushion comes with an integrated remote control and decently long power cord, so you don't have to sit very near to the plug point :) Operating it is very simple. Plug the adaptor into the mains outlet and press the 'Power' button on the remote. To activate the Shiatsu massage press one of the 'Shiatsu' buttons. Pressing the other button will reverse the direction of massage. If you wish to activate heat with the massage, press the heat button at the top of the remote.

The design is such that you can use the massaging mechanism to target your shoulders, lumbar area, back or even legs. The reverse action shiatsu massage mechanism combined with the soothing heat treatment helps ease muscular tension or stiffness. Though the heat is not too hot(which I have noticed is the case with most such massagers), it does give a moderate warming sensation which coupled with the kneading massage offers good relief. When the heat option is turned on, the massage heads will glow red. You can flip back the flap for a more intense massage - I always do that.

The HoMedics Shiatsu Cushion

When you are using the massager, you need to ensure that you do not exert too much force against the pillow. This is so that you do not injure yourself and also to ensure that the massaging mechanism is not damaged. The effect of the massage is so brilliant that it is easy to get carried away and keep using the cushion for long periods of time. And that is why HoMedics have set a 15 minute auto shutoff feature on the unit to ensure the user's safety. The product comes with an instruction manual which lists all the safety cautions and maintenance aspects as well.

This Shiatsu cushion has been with me for a few weeks now and I am so very pleased with the results. The lower back pain and upper leg pain that I get during my periods is better managed now because of the Shiatsu cushion. The tension spots on my shoulders have also improved because of the regular massage sessions. Overall, I love the HoMedics Shiatsu Cushion a lot and cannot recommend the product enough. If you suffer from tension in the shoulders or experience frequent backache(which most of us would experience at some point in our lives) then I strongly suggest that you give this Shiatsu cushion a go. It is priced at £54.99 and available to buy online at www.homedics.co.uk
