Until recently I had not heard of Perricone MD, a global lifestyle brand that pioneered the concept of youthful beauty and health based on Dr. Nicholas Perricone's revolutionary technology. Considered to be a 'cult skin care brand', Perricone MD have a wide range of products including cleansers, exfoliators, serums, moisturising creams, toners and eye treatments.

I have been trying out the Perricone Sub-D Basic Kit over the past month. The kit contains 4 products that have been selected to target the common signs of ageing, leaving your skin rejuvenated and radiant. The kit is priced at £39.99 + £4.95 P&P and includes:
  • Cold Plasma Sub-D (30ml)
  • High Potency Amine Facelift (30ml)
  • Citrus Facial Wash (59ml) and
  • Cold Plasma (7.5ml)

If the products are purchased individually it works out to around £140, which makes this kit an excellent bargain and an easy way to try out the products.

Let me begin with the Citrus Facial Wash which is designed to gently wash away the impurities without stripping the skin of its natural oils. I love this face wash. It is very gentle, has a mild citrusy scent and does what it claims. It leaves the skin clean and refreshed without making it dry. Next up is the High Potency Amine Facelift which claims to deliver both instant and cumulative anti-aging benefits. This one is a very light-weight treatment which sinks into the skin beautifully and gets absorbed completely. I have been using this religiously every night on my neck and I feel that the skin texture on my neck has improved a bit. Skin feels more supple than what it used to be earlier.

The Cold Plasma Sub-D which is the hero product of the kit is said to tighten the appearance of skin along the chin and jawline. It contains proven cosmeceutical ingredients that target the loose, sagging skin along the jawline and also work on the wrinkles in the neck and décolleté. While I do not have major issues in these areas, I would definitely not mind better, toned skin. So I gave this product a go with a lot of enthusiasm. The texture of the Sub-D is similar to the High Potency Amine Facelift, i.e. it gets absorbed very nicely leaving a matt finish. No greasiness at all. It has good moisturising properties even though it is not marketed as one. The scent is unusual - to me it smells like some pickled vegetable. But surprisingly I am okay with the scent. It does not irritate or bother me. I have been using this nightly on my face and décolleté. While the face looks well hydrated, I think I have seen better results on the décolleté where the skin texture seems to have improved.

The final product in the kit is the 7.5ml pot of Cold Plasma. As per the brand, this treatment has been formulated to help address the 10 most visible signs of ageing: wrinkles, enlarged pores, dryness, discolouration, uneven skin tone, redness, impurities, loss of firmness, smoothness and radiance. It basically covers every aspect of ageing. But the main drawback of this product for me was the scent - strong and not something I would enjoy using on my face or neck. I used it a couple of times and thought I would probably get used to the smell but I just could not; which is pity because the product claims to tackle so many skin problems.

Now, we come to the price. Yes, the products are expensive. With a 30ml pot of Cold Plasma Sub-D costing £55, this may not be something within everyone's beauty budget. However, if the cost is not a big constraint, you can give it a try. Based on my experience these are high potency products, so you only need a little amount for each application, which in turn means the small 30ml pot will go a long way. But without question, the best way to try out the range is to go for the basic kit, which is the ideal 'try-before-you-buy' option.
